For every situation, self introspection is the best solution. A mirror reflects what there is inside anyone. Reflection never lies, rather it conveys the bitter truth. 
Water, the natural mirror which shows the symmetry and reality hand to hand. Only difference is, one can choose what to see in an artificial one, but one cannot pick the perfect scenarios when in nature. It shows everything in whole, everything in real.
Perhaps this is the biggest bane and boon together when it comes to nature. It is unbiased and raw. It doesn't differentiate, it just conveys.
